Where I've been

This is pretty cool - I've been to the red places - lots to go!

Zoom in...Collapse )

I keep seeing this lately...

...and it's annoying me.

(Also on my tumblr)

Shallow post is shallow

So it's been ages since I had a celebrity crush - I don't count John Barrowman as a crush because whilst I am a big fan and think he's gorgeous, I don't think of him like that.

This man however, I definitely think of like that. So I want to say thank you Game of Thrones for bring this face to my TV.

Question Meme

I was tagged by jedi_harkness I think my answers may be useless though! lol

(also I'm not tagging anyone)

1. Which Star Wars trilogy do you prefer, Classic or Prequel?
*whispers* I have never seen any of them

2. Have you seen, or intend to see The Avengers?
I might - I'm in no rush to see it. I haven't seen any of the other movies (about the individuals) though I do like Robert Downey Jr so I really should see Iron Man. My main problem is that I cannot take the guy playing Thor seriously - every time I see him all I can think about is when he was a terrible actor on a terrible Australian soap (one which I no longer watch).

3. Do you think Torchwood will come back for a fifth series?
Anything is possible since they haven't officially cancelled it.

4. Which Doctor Who is your favorite?
Um, I have only seen Christopher Ecclestone (sp?) and David Tennant so I will say David Tennant

5. Which book that was required reading in school was your favorite?
I liked most of the book I read at school but my favourite would easily be Wuthering Heights

6. What's your favorite food to have at the movies?
Popcorn - without a doubt. When I go to the movies with my mother she like to go to this small boutique cinema near her house, it's very nice and comfortable but it doesn't have popcorn!

7. Is there life on other planets?

8. Who would win in a fight, Iron Man or Batman?
Since I haven't seen Iron Man I will say Batman

9. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I am lucky that any time I have really wanted to go somewhere I have been able to make it happen -  for the longest time it was to go to Cambodia which I did and it was amazing.

I think I will choose Prague - it looks beautiful

10. Jedi or Sith?
I don't know what a Sith is

11. Marry, shag, throw off a cliff?
What are my options?!

Unpopular opinion time!

Gilded Lilys sounds so completely awesome I hope it gets picked up for a full series and I hope it kills Torchwood dead. I wouldn't adverse to seeing Jack in Doctor Who (even though I don't watch Doctor Who) but please no more Torchwood.

What is the last great book you read?

I have read loads of great books recently -'The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt, Maurice by E.M. Forster, Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh (who I only just realised is a man) the Thursday Next series and more.

It is too hard to choose and I'm totally going to cheat. So my choice is A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin which is a series - I have read the first four and am waiting for the fifth to come out in paperback in a few weeks (I am totally aware of my jumping on the bandwagon with this).

This is the series that the brilliant Game of Thrones is based on. I read the first book before I watched the TV show and even though I knew what was going to happen it was still completly amazing (possibly my favourite show ever). I tried to pace myself a bit after that because I wanted to savour the books and the world created. Never have I read a book that has so many complete WTF moments (my face must have been a picture when I was reading on the train) - everytime I think I can predict the way it's going to go I am proven to be completely wrong - so I've given up trying to anticipate what's going to happen and just enjoy the ride. I hope everything is tied together by the last (seventh) book (get writing GRRM please) I really have no idea where he's going with it.

As an aside it is a little bit ridiculous how excited I am for series 2 of Game of Thrones - I can't wait!

Plea for help for Thai Wildlife

I speak from experience -  the Wildlife Freiends Foundation and Elephant Nature Park is an amazing place and does amazing work. They do not deserve this - it's the animals that are suffering at the the hands of corrupt government officials.

The petition - sign here

"I am seriously concerned for the welfare of both animals and staff, currently being intimidated by officials at the Wildlife Friends Foundation in Thailand.

Both Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) and Elephant Nature Park (ENP) have been hard hit by these raids as both were raided by armed officials of the Department of National Parks (DNP) and police units. The officials claim they received an anonymous phone call.

Both WFFT and ENP feel they have been targeted for speaking out on the recent elephant killings at Kaengkrachan National Park and Kuiburi National Park, and the involvement of officials, politicians and wealthy businessmen.

The ENP was founded by Sangduen (Lek) Chailert who has won numerous conservation awards including Hero of the Planet by the Ford Foundation, Hero of Asia by Time Magazine in 2005 and the Earth Day Award. Her work has been featured in National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, BBC and in print media throughout the world. The ENP and WFFT both have an international reputation as having the the best animal rescue facilities, setting the standard in Thailand for elephant care and wildlife rescue. http://www.wfft.org/

As I write this letter, the Department of National Parks are currently forcibly removing 103 animals from WFFT which they claim the organisation does not have relevant paperwork. This is being done using sticks to scare the animals leaving them bleeding, some of who are sick and injured, into small cages and without anaesthesia.

This is blatant corruption and bullying in an attempt to silence the organisation's leaders from being outspoken against the illegal wildlife trade and recent finds of slaughtered elephants in nearby national parks, for which corruption amongst Thai authorities is suspected.

Please please help. The last time the DNP confiscated animals they were never seen again!"

Well it is Valentine's Day tomorrow...

The words are a verse from a poem that I found a while ago to write in my friend's wedding card. But now, for the life of me, I can't remember what the poem was called, who wrote it or where I found it.

Anyway I love the verse, I think it's beautiful.

Ok since I'm old school and still read books made from paper and hate folding down the corners of books I need bookmarks right?

Well this is what I did...Collapse )
